Abstract

This article disscusses about the phoneme comparison of Kanum Sota language with Kanum Barkari’s . Language of Kanum Sota and Kanum Barkari as the vernacular languages in the province of Papua, which are spoken by people in the District of  Sota and the District of Naukenjerai, Merauke Regency. Kanum Sota language and Kanum Barkari language situated in the border between Indonesia and Papua New Guinea. The purpose of this paper is  to describe and compare the phonological system of Kanum Sota language with Barkari Kanum language. This study was conducted through literature. Data analysis was conducted by describing and comparing the soundssystem, phonemes, and phonemes distribution of Kanum sota language with Kanum Barkari language. The results of this study shows that Kanum Sota has more consonant phonemes than Barkari Kanum language. The similarity of  consonant phonemes of Kanum Sota language and Kanum Barkari language is the phoneme /p/, /b/, /t/, /d/, /j/, /k/, /g/, /m/, /n/, /ŋ/, /l/, /s/, /r/, /h/, /w/, and /y/. Consonant phonemes that owned by Kanum Sota language but it is not owned by Barkari Kanum language is the phoneme /c/, /ñ/, and /f/. Both of these language have six vowel phonemes. The similarity of  vowel phonemes between Kanum Sota and Kanum Barkari is  the phoneme /a/, /i/, /e/, and /u/. Vowel phonemes that owned by Kanum Sota language but it is not owned by Barkari Kanum language is the phoneme /ә/ and /ↄ/. While vowel phonemes that owned by Kanum Barkari language but it is not owned by Sota Kanum language is the phoneme /є/ and /o/.

Abstract

This article aims to describe the discourse joke by Papuans called Mop. Mop 'joke' discourse is one of the collective wealth of the people of Papua sastra inherited from generation to generation. Mop 'joke' discourse contains elements of humor or wit; the creation of a civilized beings. Mop 'joke' discourse has the potential of complex linguistic and supported by certain persuasive power that humorous effect, can be entertaining, pleasing, reduce tasa tense and unhappy audience. This article is an attempt to identify and explore initial typology forms of discourse in society Mop Papua with projecting typology that includes: (i) the story, (ii) conversation or dialogue, (iii) puzzles, and (iv) poetry.

Abstract

One of the local language that found in the province of Papua with the largest number of speakers is Ngalum language. Ngalum language is spoken by Ngalum’s ethnic who lived in the Valley of  Oksibil, Okisop, and Okbon, Pegunungan Bintang Regency. One of the uniqueness of Ngalum language is numeralia system. Numeralia are words or phrases that show the number or quantity, can also to express the number of objects or their order in a row. This research uses descriptive method with three stages, namely providing data, data analysis, and  presentation of the results of data analysis. Data analysis was conducted after the data were  classified. The analysis that is applied using distributional method. Ngalum Language recognize five types of numeralia, namely numeralia principal, numeralia level, numeralia collective principal, principal numeralia indeterminate, and numeralia distributive. Numeralia of Ngalum is put in the front of phrase and the back of noun.

Abstract

This research oriented ecolinguistic study aimed to assess or inventory lexicons of the physical environment/physical and social environment that is used as the name of the ethnic Miyah. This research is preliminary only aims to describe or description what kind of closeness or intimacy between ethnic Miyah to the physical environment/physical and social environment through the lexicon associated with the name of the place, the name of the condition of the physical/geographical name of flora and fauna found in the environment Miyah ethnic community life, as well as the name of cultural objects and names associated with key events/conditions associated with the birth of a person who is selected and used as the name of the person on ethnic Miyah.

Abstract

This paper discusses about the comprehension and interprentation of Baliem idioms to revitalize its values. The goal of this research is to understand the social culture values has been in Baliem people. This research is descriptive qualitative that focus to comprehension and interprentation the Baliem’s idioms. Its results are classify the good values of Baliem’s cultures in eigth category, that are (1) directness value, (2) togetherness value, (3) to share of life experiences value, (4) deliberation value, (5) antention and serving value, (6) work value, (7) relationship value, and (8) leadership value.

Abstract

The people of Sarmi has varieties of oral literature that scatter among the big five tribes (Sobei, Armati, Rumbuai, Manirem, and Isirawa). The main data of this research is Anak Seratus Satu folktale from Sobei Tribe. This descriptive qualitative research aims to document oral literature and to analyze the morphology of Sobei folktale based on Vladimir Propp’s structure. From the analysis, it is known that Sobei folktale is relatively complete though the plot is quite simple. There are twenty two functions and five spheres of action in it. Basically, the introduction of the character was functionally as awhole because it connected to the main function of story. Briefly, this folktale reflected the competitive manner of  Sobei people.

Abstract

Cerita Calon Arang is a folktale that is retelling by Pramoedya Ananta Toer in a story book to save memory about the folktale. This research is aimed to reveal the structure of Pramoedya Ananta Toer’s Cerita Calon Arang by Lévi-Strauss Structuralism approach. The result of the research shows that there are paired opposition and elements that unite the pairs in a serie of mytheme. After looking at the relation between mythemes, there is a deep structure in Cerita Calon Arang. The deep structure of the story shows that myth of Cerita Calon Arang is used as a media of entering Hindu religion in east Java kingdom.

Abstract

Ormu’s folktale is the folktales that life and grown on Ormu etnic in Kabupaten Jayapura, Papua Province. Some of reseach about Ormu’s folktale had done, but not for research about its structure based on Axel Olrix’s epic law. It becomes the background of this research. This research tells about epic law of Axel Olrix on structure of folktales in Ormu, Papuan. The goals of this research is to analyze and to desribe about Axel Olrix’s epic law that applied on its structure. Methods of this research is qualitative. Data was collected by documentation technique by library research. It was analyzed by composing the plot of folktale then to describe it, so the characters can be known. For the last, the structure of that folktale was found their compatibility on Axel Olrix’s epic law. The result of this research was found that all Ormu’s folktales has forward plot with limited character, their were bundled by two equal of epic law. Each folktale bundles by different epic law, its totally between two untill eight epic law.
